Youzhny advances

MUNICH: Second-seed Mikhail Youzhny made smooth progress into the second round of the BMW Open claycourt tournament here on Monday with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Jeremy Chardy.

Eighth-seeded Benjamin Becker also advancedbeating Stephane Robert 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.

Somdev Devvarman fell one match short of making the main draw here; he lost 6-1, 6-2 to Alexandre Sidorenko in the third qualifying round.
