COIMBATORE: The Southern India Mills' Association has said that its member mills reduced yarn prices by Rs. 5 a kg from May 1 and not Rs. 10 a kg. Association Chairman J. Thulasidharan told The Hindu that as announced earlier by the association the textile mills reduced the prices of hosiery yarn by Rs. 5 a kg from May 1. Thus, prices of yarn hovered at Rs. 170 a kg last month and declined to Rs. 165 a kg now. Further, some mills had not increased the yarn price by Rs. 17 a kg in April and these units reduced the prices by Rs. 2 now to have a uniform rate for the hosiery yarn. Mr. Thulasidharan said the mills had reduced the hosiery yarn prices as the Ministry of Textiles had advised the mills to do so for the benefit of other value adding segments of the textile industry.
