‘Striding Flamingos' aims at educational, physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of the girl child HYDERABAD: Striding Flamingos, a programme focused on a combination of educational, physical, cognitive, emotional and social development for girls in India in the 9 to 13 age group (or Grades 3 to 8) was launched at International School of Hyderabad at the ICRISAT campus, Patancheru, recently. Independent thinking Based on the premise that running empowers body and mind, fostering creative and independent thinking and a positive self-image, the programme includes a 5 K run. The programme runs for eight weeks with sessions every week. Helge Gallenger flagged off the run and Urska Anumanchi, a world renowned athlete and junior world Kayak champion from Slovenia, currently residing in Hyderabad was the key speaker. She gave away certificates and trophies to the girls who successfully completed the programme and the 5K run. Ms. Urska said sports helped in all-round personality development. Joseph Jawahar, the programme training consultant, Indu Vaidyanathan, co-founder of Striding Flamingos spoke. A few girls narrated their experiences and the positive impact that the programme had on them. Striding Flamingos plans to take this programme to several schools across the country.
