KOCHI: Minister for Ports M. Vijayakumar laid the foundation stone for a Bollard Pull Test Facility for Cochin Shipyard Ltd. at Vizhinjam in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. Minister for Fisheries S. Sarma presided. The test facility is required to check and confirm pulling capacity of ships including tugs and Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessels up to 500 tonnes. Presently, facility of such high capacity is not available in India. This facility will be used for ships under construction in Cochin Shipyard. The facility can also cater to requirements of Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy and also Kerala Ports Department. The test facility is being set up in an eco-friendly way. A Memorandum of Agreement was also signed on Monday between the Kerala Port Department and CSL in connection with the project. The agreement signed by Jacob Thomas, Director ( Port Department) and P Aboobacker, Executive Director (Ship Repair), CSL, was exchanged during the function. George Mercier, MLA, Kovalam, was the chief guest at the function. Cmde. M. Jitendran, CMD, Cochin Shipyard Ltd., Cmde. K. Subramaniam, Director (Operations), and others took part in the function.
