Puppet festival to be held from May 7 to 16
Puppet-making workshops will also be held

Bangalore: The best puppeteers from across the country will weave their magic during a nine-day national-level puppet festival to be held in the city from May 7 to 16.

Organised to spread awareness on the beauty and grandeur of traditional forms of puppetry, the festival also boasts an innovative “robotic” puppet show by Prof. Dinesh of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.). Other forms of puppetry such as string, rod, shadow and glove will also be showcased at the festival, organised by Dhaatu, an organisation engaged in the promotion of puppetry. Anupama Hoskere, director of Dhaatu, said that the event was aimed at enlightening the youth about the country's rich culture and heritage so that it is sustained through the generations to come.

Dhaatu will hold the puppet festival at multiple venues this year to accommodate several groups of artistes, she said. Apart from the numerous puppet shows, the festival would also include puppet-making workshops for children and a puppet parade with the aim of bonding with the community, she said.

Quiz

A two-day quiz on the Indian epics Ramayana and Mahabharata and a few Sanskrit plays will be held at the Freedom Park on May 14 and 15.

The quiz will include a qualifying written round and the winners of the final round will receive a cash prize worth Rs. 5,000.
