Messi double puts Barca a step closer

MADRID: Barcelona took another big stride towards a second-straight La Liga triumph when top-scorer Lionel Messi struck twice in a 4-1 home win over relegation threatened Tenerife on Tuesday.

With two matches left, Barca has a La Liga record 93 points, four clear of second-placed Real Madrid, which had a game in hand as of Tuesday.

Valencia sealed a place in the Champions League qualifying round after coming from behind to defeat bottom side Xerez 3-1.
