BANGALORE: A major fire broke out on the premises of the American Power Conversion factory around 7.35 p.m. at Jigani Industrial Area here on Wednesday. The fire started in the fourth unit of the APC, a company that manufactures electrical devices, uninterrupted power systems and inverters. Over 24 fire tenders were rushed to the site, Fire and Emergency Services personnel told The Hindu. At the time of going to the press, Fire forces were still struggling to put out the blaze. The dense smoke around the area is impeding the rescue work, a Chief Fire Officer said. Initial impression was that a short-circuit caused the fire. However, only investigations could reveal the real cause, he added. At least two fire personnel, who had been involved in rescue operations for over five hours now, had to be taken to a nearby clinic, he added.
