KOCHI: A bicycle rider was run over by a private bus, killing him on the spot, at the busy Edappally-High Court road on Thursday morning. The deceased was identified as Manikkan, 60. The City Traffic Police (East) said that he had come from Tamil Nadu and was doing odd jobs. The body is being kept at the General Hospital mortuary. The accident occurred when he entered the road from Ashoka Road near Mathrubhumi and hit the front door of the bus. While the bicycle fell over to the left, he fell under the bus and the rear wheel crushed his head. The employees of the bus, operating between Aluva and Fort Kochi, fled the scene immediately after the accident. The police have registered a case under Section 304 of IPC for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
