66,408 to appear for COMED-K test tomorrow

Staff Reporter

49,541 candidates are from outside Karnataka

BANGALORE: Those aspiring for admission to private medical, engineering and dental colleges in Karnataka will face the all-important Undergraduate Entrance Test on Sunday conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka.

As many as 66,408 students are scheduled to appear for the test in 75 centres across Bangalore and 21 centres across the State. This figure is up from 65,200 students who had applied for this test in 2009. Of the total number of applicants, 49,541 candidates are from outside Karnataka. In fact, South Eastern Railway is running express special trains from Kolkata and Hatia in Jharkhand to the State to cater to the students expected to attempt this test.

The test will commence at 10 a.m. with Physics and Chemistry slotted in the first session.

In the afternoon, students will appear for the Mathematics paper (between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.) and/or the Biology paper (3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.). While 41,919 students have applied for engineering courses, 7,317 have applied for entry to medical or dental courses in the State. Of them, 20,617 are girls.

In a press release issued by COMED-K here on Friday, the consortium advised students to reach the centres on time. It appealed to students to stay away from touts and agents who may be doing the rounds of these centres. “It is known that during COMED-K's UGET, many parents and students come from across the country. Many of them are gullible and fall prey to touts who often promise them admission in colleges in exchange for a hefty sum. I advise students and parents to refrain from falling for this,” an official said.
