TIRUCHI: The City Crime Branch police on Friday arrested five persons and confiscated counterfeit currency of Rs. 500 denomination amounting to Rs. 1.13 lakh from them. On a complaint lodged by Rajendran, a two-wheeler workshop owner of Milaguparai, who had reportedly received fake currency of Rs. 15,000 in Rs. 500 denomination as advance for a motorcycle he had sold for Rs. 23,000 to Ravichandran of Tiruvanaikaval, a special police team sprung into action. The team comprising Assistant Commissioner Prabakaran, Inspector Neethimohan, and Sub-Inspector Manimaran nabbed Ravichandran and upon interrogating him zeroed in on his four accomplices: Rajan of Chinthamani, Mutukumar of Mathur, Kannan of Woraiyur and Durai of Gandhi Market area. The police team confiscated 196 currencies of Rs. 500 denomination in their possession, their two two-wheelers, mobile phones, and driving licences, and had them remanded to judicial custody.
