Mint flyover work will begin in June: Mayor

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The Mint flyover will be constructed by the Chennai Corporation in 15 months at a cost of Rs. 23 crore.

For the first time, the civic body will entrust the design, engineering, procurement and construction of such a project to the contracting firm, Mayor M. Subramanian said here on Saturday.

Speaking to mediapersons after inspecting the flyover site, he said work on the facility is expected to begin by June 15. “We will place the contractor's bid for the Council's approval this month,” he said.

The contractor, IVRCL, would be shifting the Chennai Metrowater utilities, construct stormwater drains and lay service lanes in the area surrounding the flyover. The civic body has already paid Rs.2.63 crore to the Metrowater towards supply of materials.

The Mayor said 32 timber shops that had encroached upon 22.50 grounds of land belonging to the civic body had been removed.
