Tiff over cricket claims man's life

Correspondent

CUTTACK: There could not have been a more ‘tragic' end to the game of cricket than the one that took place over this week in a remote village in Narasinghpur block of this district, about 80 km from here.

Two middle-aged men just freaked out on Tuesday evening over a minor quarrel between their sons for a cricket ball resulting in one succumbing to his injuries at a private hospital here on Sunday. The other person landed in jail booked under murder charges.

According to reports, Satya and Lipu, both schoolmates had a quarrel while playing cricket in Badabhuin village under Narasinghpur police station on Tuesday evening. This ‘fallout' in the cricket field had its echo felt at their homes when their fathers Rabinarayan Sahu and Gobind Sahu were engaged in a heated argument.

“In a fit of rage Gobind (50) hit Rabinarayan (52) on his head with a wooden plank and a profusely bleeding Rabinarayan was shifted to a private hospital in Cuttack city. While undergoing treatment for brain haemorrhage for last four days, Rabinarayan died on Sunday morning”, said Narasinghpur police inspector Ranjit Naik.

The police on Sunday registered a murder case and arrested Gobind and forwarded him to court from where he was remanded in jail custody.
