CHENNAI: Hotels in the Periamet, Purasawalkam and Kilpauk areas have been told to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) network in two months. At a meeting of hotel owners convened on Friday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Kilpauk) M.C. Sarangan said installation of CCTV cameras covering the reception, lobby, frontage and parking lot was imperative. Reception staff should ensure the identity of customers before allotting rooms. “Verify identity” He said the hotel managements should thoroughly verify the identity and antecedents of employees before hiring them. “Many hotels have employees belonging to northern States. We have asked them to maintain a database containing the photograph, identity proof and fingerprints of all employees.” Mr. Sarangan said contact particulars of local police, fire station and nearest hospital should be displayed at the reception area. Cashiers should have machines to check genuineness of currency notes. “There have been many instances where people tried to exchange fake Indian counterfeit notes in hotels, particularly in the Periamet area. We have asked hotel managers to alert the police in the event of any suspicious person or activity in rooms,” he said. A meeting of all petrol bunk managers was also held. They were told about the precautionary measures to be taken to prevent crimes on their premises, police sources said.
