Rs. 2 lakh worth stale food seized

ARIYALUR: About Rs.2 lakh worth of packaged food packets, including expired products and those without expiry dates, were seized from various shops in Ariyalur town by special teams on Saturday.
About 10 special teams, comprising Revenue, Municipal and Health Department officials, conducted surprise inspections at shops in the Ariyalur Bus Stand, Periakadai Veedhi, and Chinna Kadai Veedhi.
Various food products including sweetmeats, savouries, soft drinks and water sachets were seized during the inspections.
About Rs.22,000 worth of banned lottery tickets were also seized from a shop at Ariyalur Bus Stand.
The owner of the shop, Selvaraj, escaped during the inspection and a case has been registered against him, according to a press release from Collector T.Abraham. Stern action warned
Mr.Abraham also warned of stern action against traders selling expired food products and those without manufacturing and expiry dates.
