K.N. Nehru, Transport Minister: Mini-buses will serve as a connecting service to transit points and start plying in the city by the end of the year. Of 3,500 such buses that will be procured for the State, 100 will be for Chennai. During the procurement of buses under the JNNURM scheme last year, a scientific evaluation was done to fix routes. A similar mechanism will be followed for the mini-bus scheme, instead of going by the recommendations of MPs and MLAs.
