Yoga training programme for pregnant women at PHC

Yoga, meditation help pregnant women deliver healthy babies

No complications:Pregnant women undergoing yoga training at the Primary Health Centre, Sindagampalli, near Bargur, in Krishnagiri district on Monday.

KRISHNAGIRI: Collector V.K. Shanmugam inaugurated a special yoga training programme for pregnant women at the Primary Health Centre, Bargur Panchayat Union, in Krishnagiri on Monday.

Mr. Shanmugam said that yoga and meditation would help pregnant women deliver healthy babies.

He said that it would also reduce Mother Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) considerably in the district. It would help the pregnant women deliver babies without any complications.

Welfare measures

Explaining the various welfare measures being implemented by the Central and State Governments such as maternity assistance scheme, Janani Suraksha Yojana etc., he said the pregnant women who were reporting for delivery at the PHC were being taken care of two days before and after delivery.

Krishnagiri district bagged third prize from the State Government for implementing the National Rural Health Mission in the district recently, the Collector added.

As many as 65 pregnant women participated in the yoga programme. It would be extended to all the PHCs in the district soon. As many as 3,000 pregnant women would be benefited from this programme.

The yoga training would be given three days in a week.

V.G. Rajendran, Chairman, Bargur Panchayat Union, presided over the training programme. Dr. N. Aiyyanar, Deputy Director (in charge), spoke.
