CBI may seek custody of Daimary

Sushanta Talukdar

In connection with 2008 Assam serial blasts

Guwahati: The CBI is likely to seek the custody of the arrested founder-chief of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) Ransaigra Nabla Daimary alias Ranjan Daimary for further interrogation in connection with the October 30, 2008 Assam serial blasts.

Mr. Daimary is under the custody of the Special Operation Unit of the Assam Police. The 12-day police remand will complete on May 14.

The CBI named Mr. Daimary as one of the 19 accused in its charge sheet filed in the blasts case. A CBI team is interrogating him and is likely to seek his custody for further interrogation, sources said.

Meanwhile, in a statement, the Boro Peoples' Forum for Peace and Rights (BPFPR), welcomed “the confessional statement of Mr. Daimary,” in front of police officials that he was willing to come to the negotiation table with the Government of India on the “Boroland issue.”

Forum president Bhramon Baglari urged the Centre to take all steps to make use of this opportunity to hold talks with Mr. Daimary.

He appealed to both the factions of the NDFB (Ranjan Daimary faction and the Dhiren Boro faction) to unite so that the “Boroland issue” could be resolved once and for all.

In another development, normal life in the four districts of Kokrajhar, Baksa, Udalguri and Chirang under Bodoland Territorial Area Districts was affected on Monday following a twelve-hour bandh called by the United Democratic People's Front to protest against the alleged discrimination towards the arrested militant leader.
