Omar promises rehabilitation policy

SRINAGAR: A rehabilitation policy for the youth “stuck” in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir would be announced soon, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said here on Monday.

‘Points of entry'

Talking to journalists, he said the State was discussing with Centre the “points of entry” for the youth willing to return to Jammu and Kashmir from PoK and the rehabilitation policy would be announced after completing all formalities.

Mr. Abdullah said the government was also considering rehabilitation of two youths recently acquitted in the Lajpat Nagar bomb blast case.

Steps were on to make the State Accountability Commission (SAC) functional. “I hope the committee [set up to nominate SAC members] would finish its job soon.” Discussions were on to convert the State Vigilance Organisation into State Vigilance Commission to expand its functioning.

To a question on the government employees demanding payment of arrears consequent to the recommendation of the Sixth Pay Commission, Mr. Abdullah said he would come out with a road map for resolving the employees' demands. “Their main demand is arrears. Now the government is in Srinagar, we will hold talks with the employees and all their genuine demands will be met.”
