dated May 13, 1960: Appeal for release

Valerie Philip, the well-known South African actress, and leading lady at Durban's Lyric Theatre, has cabled Mr. Harold Macmillan, British Prime Minister, urging him to help secure the release of 21 women detained in Johannesburg under the Emergency Regulations. She has also sent a telegram to the South African Minister of Justice, Mr. F.C. Erasmus, appealing for their release.
