Oil spillage in airport affects operations on two taxiways
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: An incident of oil spill in parking stand 30 at the Chennai airport was reported on Wednesday evening due to bursting of a delivery pump outlet gasket in a bouzer.
An official release from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said around 7.40 p.m. refuelling was in progress to an Air India flight IC- 905 operated in the Chennai – Dubai sector, parked at stand number 30. At 7.50 p.m. leakage of fuel was noticed from the delivery pump output.
Following this the Indian Oil Corporation official immediately stopped refuelling and the “Emergency Shut-Off” valve was operated to cut-off fuel supply from the refuel tank to the system.
However leakage continued since there was fuel in the line. Information was passed on to Apron Control and immediately AAI Fire Service was pressed into service.
Parking stand 30, which is in the portion of apron taxi lane ‘H' and taxiway ‘G' were affected by the fuel spillage.
They were closed for operation. The affected area was water washed and as a precautionary measure the area was closed down till 2.30 a.m., the release added.
