HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Backward Classes Welfare Association has petitioned the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) seeking its intervention in directing the government to release the funds for reimbursement of fees for weaker section students in corporate colleges. In a petition presented to the Commission on Thursday, Association president R. Krishnaiah said the government was conspiring to do away with the fee reimbursement despite sufficient funds being earmarked in the budget. He stated that after the death of late Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the State government was planning to dilute the welfare programmes initiated by him. Delay in fund release Mr. Krishnaiah lamented that due to the delay in release of funds, several educational institutions were threatening the students to pay the fee or forego writing their examinations. Students were undergoing lot of mental tension due to the harassment of the educational institutions, he pointed out. Mr. Krishnaiah said as thousands of students would be appearing for their professional courses examinations from May 16, the government should direct the educational institutions not to harass them and issue hall tickets. He sought the SHRC intervention in directing the government to take necessary action.
