EGoM on fuel pricing may meet on May 21

NEW DELHI: The Empowered Group of Ministers on oil and gas pricing is likely to meet on May 21 to decide on “freeing” the petrol and diesel prices from government control and tune them to the movement of crude oil prices in the international market.

Officials in the Petroleum Ministry said the meeting assumed importance because of the mounting losses of the oil marketing companies and the Finance Ministry's reluctance to provide subsidy in the long run. The EGoM is headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
