Prompt action:Superintendent of Police A. Arun (right) looking at the property recovered by Kangeyam police at a press conference in Tirupur on Thursday. — Tirupur: As many as six cases of dacoity were claimed to have been solved by the district police with the arrest of M. Rajendran (38), a resident of Veerapandi in the city outskirts, on Thursday. A total of 31.5 sovereign jewellery robbed from various houses were recovered from the accused. Superintendent of Police A. Arun told reporters that three of his accomplices, S. Selvam (35), T. Paramasivam (40) and T. Thangavel (50) were still at large. The gang was allegedly involved in the dacoity cases that took place this year at Vellakoil (January 12), Vijayamangalam (January 8), Modakkurichi (January 20), Komaralingam (March 22) and Ganapathipalayam (February 4), and also in a case that was registered on December 17 last year. According to Mr. Arun, the gang had violently robbed the jewellery in all the cases overcoming the resistance offered by the occupants. Mr. Arun said that owing to sustained effort, crime detection in the district had shown significant improvement in the last two months. “The unsolved crime cases have come down from 127 to 90 during the period,” he added. Check-posts planned Plans were afoot to erect 15 check-posts along the city borders within the next few days in an attempt to track down the criminals quickly and thereby bring down the crime rate, he said. Considering the shortage of human resource faced by the district police, it was planned to mobilise personnel required for deployment at the new check-posts from nearby districts. The new check-posts planned would come up at Mannarai, near railway level crossing No: 132 along Tirupur-Uthukuli road, Kongu Nagar, Anaipalayam, Mangalam road, Palavachipalayam, Dhadikaranpudur, Santhaipettai, Veerapandi, Nallur, T.P.N. Gardens along Tirupur-Dharapuram road, Ammapalayam, Periyar Colony, Poyampalayam pirivu and Periyandipalayam. Police sources added that to improve law and order as well as crime detection, it had been proposed by a high-level committee to the State Government for creation of additional posts of 10 Inspectors, 26 Sub-Inspectors and 586 constables in Tirupur district.
