Sowing season:The Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee yard in Hassan teeming with seed potato buyers on Friday. HASSAN: Almost 300 tonnes of seed potato is being sold every day at the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) yard in Hassan. With the district receiving rain almost every day, farmers are preparing to sow. On Friday, seed potato was being sold at Rs. 750 to Rs. 800 a quintal. Seed potato is stored in the seven cold storages around Hassan. Deputy Director of Horticulture Nagaraj said that the department had opened a counter in the APMC yard where experts would give technical guidance to farmers on how to process seed potato, use pesticides, etc. Experts would be available in the stalls from 9.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. The team will collect details on the seed potato coming to the yard and will also test those bought by farmers. Farmers have been advised to obtain receipts, along with the lot number, place from where the seeds were obtained and the number of days they were kept in cold storage.
