TIRUVARUR: Tiruvarur district has improved the pass percentage marginally this year with respect to plus two examinations, results for which were announced on Friday.
Last year (2008-09), the pass percentage was 81.05. This year, ie 2009-2010, it is 83.23 per cent. “We have improved by two per cent,” said C.Kalaivani, Chief Education Officer.
M. Mahalakshmi of St. Teresa's Girls Higher Secondary School, Thiruthuraipoondi, came first in Tiruvarur district.
She scored 1,156 out of 1,200. Ramesh of Government HSS, Poonthottam came second scoring 1,153 out of 1,200. A. Madubala of GRM Girls HSS, Tiruvarur came third scoring 1,151 marks.
M. Thangavel, District Collector (in-charge) and C. Kalaivani, Chief Education Officer, congratulated the students for their achievement. A total of 11,643 students wrote the examinations out of whom 9,691 passed out. Out of 4,841 boys who wrote the examinations, 3,805 passed out. Out of 6,802 girls, 5,586 passed out. Eight schools in the district have scored cent per cent results.
