Steps afoot to prevent misuse of funds, says the Minister Ministers, MLAs and others participate Kakinada: Union Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallam Raju has said the Central and State governments are committed to people's welfare, which is the objective of Praja Patham programme. NREGS and several other welfare schemes are being implemented to improve the lot of the poor and downtrodden. The targeted beneficiaries should fully utilize all such schemes. Speaking at the Praja Patham re-dedication programme at Ambedkar Bhavan here on Saturday, Mr. Pallam Raju said Arogyasri scheme was of tremendous use to the poor who did not have affordable means to health care. Pensions were being given to the eligible and employment provided under the NREGS. A huge amount of funds were sanctioned under various schemes. Steps were being taken to prevent misuse of funds. The Right to Education Act would go a long a way in improving literacy rate among children, which was crucial for the country's future development. Another similar legislation introduced to alleviate the plight of the poor was the Right to Food Bill. Various other development and welfare schemes were on the anvil in the years ahead. Units distributed Later, Mr. Pallam Raju distributed units under welfare schemes of ten departments worth Rs. 27.81 crores for 22,480 beneficiaries. Ministers Pilli Subhaschandra Bose and Pinipe Viswaroop, District Collector M. Ravi Chandra, Joint Collector K Sasidhar, Zilla Parishad Chairman Ch Venugopala Krishna, MLCs – K.V.V. Satyanarayana Raju and Rudraraju Padmaraju, MLAs Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy, N. Sesha Reddy, P. Satish Kumar and others spoke.
