Miraculous escape for passengers

SALEM: Passengers of the Bangalore-Salem-Ernakulam Inter-City Express had a miraculous escape when the train hit an earthmover at a manned level crossing, which was found opened that time, near Omalur here on Saturday. No one was injured. Railway sources said that the driver of the earthmover who attempted to cross the rail line at the level crossing at Kamandapatti near Karuvalli station saw the train and tried to clear the track. But as the train was fast approaching, he abandoned the machine and fled. After a delay of 20 minutes, the train reached Salem Railway Junction where its motorman preferred a complaint. — Special Correspondent
