Cultural centre refutes charges

Staff Reporter

Kochi: M.K. Sanoo and Gopi Kottamurickal, president and secretary of the T.K. Ramakrishnan Cultural Centre have, in a media release, refuted the allegations levelled against the centre.

“Registered under the Charitable Societies Act, the T.K. Ramakrishnan Cultural Centre is not a trust,” they said.

“It is a centre for promotion of culture… Although a request for leasing of land in Kochi for setting up such a centre was submitted as early as 2006, it was only recently that the government came around to agree to lease out 15 cents of land at jetty for a period of 30 years.

‘No land grab'

“In the meantime, the Corporation of Kochi also showered its magnanimity on us by agreeing to give some more land for the centre. However, we have decided to go ahead with the setting up of the centre at the site allotted by the government,” they said in the release.

On the allegation that the CPI (M) was aiming at grabbing land in the name of cultural leaders, they said that despite an acre of land at Marine Drive being given during A.K. Antony's Chief Ministership to set up a centre in the name of G. Sankara Kurup, nothing had happened.

“Likewise, the land allotted in the name of K.A. Damodara Menon in Thiruvananthapuram lies unused with a half-broken signboard.

“As for the T.K. Ramakrishnan Cultural Centre, efforts have already been undertaken to complete the project in a time-bound fashion,” they said.
