Mairaj Khan ends up 52nd

NEW DELHI: National champion Mairaj Ahmad Khan shot a 109 out of 125 to finish 52nd in a field of 70 in the skeet event of the World Cup in Dorset, Britain, on Friday.

Khan had a series of 22, 21, 22, 21 and 23. Compatriot Parampal Singh Guron also shot a similar score to take the 53rd spot, following a series of 24, 22, 20, 21 and 22. The third member of the team, Man Singh came up with a series of 24, 21, 20, 19 and 21 for a total of 105 that put him at 62nd.

Shooting in the MQS section, Sohrab Singh Gill, who had been fighting to represent the country in the courts despite not holding an Indian passport, also shot a 105, following a sequence of 23, 20, 16, 23 and 23.

Interestingly, Gill's inclusion in the team for the Asian clay championship recently had witnessed the entire skeet team being pulled out of competition at the intervention of the Union Sports Ministry.

Men's skeet: 1. Georgios Achilleos (Cyp) 146 (123); 2. Ethimios Mitas (Gre) 145 (4) 123; 3. Valeriy Shomin (Rus) 45 (3) 122; 52. Mairaj Ahmad Khan 109; 53. Parampal Singh Guron 109; 62. Man Singh 105. MQS: Sohrab Singh Gill 105 .
