All Project Directors of DRDA across the State directed to implement programme from May 19 Doctors can only enter parameters of disability as mentioned in form A and B SANGAREDDY: Efforts are on to weed out bogus beneficiaries in the disabled category, by identifying their degree of disability based on a software- Software to Access Disability for Rehabilitation and Empowerment (SADAREM)- developed at state level. The orders were issued by B. Rajasekhar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) in the first week of this month. All Project Directors of DRDA across the State were directed to implement this from May 19. Under the new programme doctors can only enter parameters of the disability as mentioned in form A and B. Screening However, Medak administration has been preparing to implement the process of screening the existing beneficiaries from May 24 beginning with district head quarters hospital followed by similar camps at Siddipet and Medak. Depending upon the availability of infrastructure and doctors, the camps would be held either at the government hospital or MNR Hospital in the city outskirts. Earlier, doctors used to ascertain the disability of a person based on the guidelines and their discretion. The computer operator used to enter the details filled by the doctor into the system which would issue certificates. Here in the new software, the doctors were instructed to enter parameters only in the form, the same would be entered into the system by the computer operator. Hence there will be few errors. Once the parameters of a person are entered, the software would automatically assess the percentage of disability of that particular individual. Similarly, there will not be any chance for local leaders to bring pressure on the doctors to certify a person with disability certificate. Officials confident The officials are confident that the new software would weed out all those who were enjoying pensions though ineligible once all the existing disabled persons were screened. Similarly, in the second phase, physically disabled, getting pensions under old-age, widows and other categories would be covered, followed by those who are genuinely disabled but are not receiving any pension. “The effort is to see that all the eligible get pensions instead of the ineligible. We may have to face some pressure but there is no other go but to be firm,'' said an official.
