GULBARGA: The agitating pourakarmikas on Sunday rejected the offer made by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to pay them their pending wages and regular wages henceforth if they formed self-help groups (SHGs) and worked for the Gulbarga City Corporation. The former Labour Minister S.K. Kanta, who is leading the agitation, met the Chief Minister in Bangalore on May 14 and discussed the demands of pourakarmikas. Deadlock The meeting ended in a deadlock with the Chief Minister refusing to budge from his stand that pourakarmikas should form SHGs and work for the corporation and they could not be paid salary directly by the civic body. The pourakarmikas rejected the offer and decided to continue their agitation. Mr. Kanta met Union Labour Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge at Buddha Vihar here on Sunday and apprised him of the problems faced by the agitating pourakarmikas. Mr. Kanta wanted Mr. Kharge to direct the Labour Department to file a case against the corporation for not paying wages to pourakarmikas. Mr. Kharge promised Mr. Kanta that he would look into the issue and take action. Mr. Kanta will meet N. Dharam Singh, Bidar MP, on Monday.
