Indian Bank beats SRU, lifts Texmo Cup

Coimbatore: Indian Bank (Chennai) defeated a fighting Southern Railway Unit (Chennai) 25-23, 15-25, 25-14, 25-17 in its final league clash and emerged champion of the 42nd State-level Sri Ramaswamy Memorial invitation volleyball tournament for the Texmo Cup, organised by the Aquapump Sports Club, at the Venkatakrishnan Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.

Earlier, Sree Saraswathy Thyagaraja College (Pollachi) bounced back from a two-set deficit to oust SDMVC 23-25, 17-25, 25-20, 25-18, 15-12 in the final of the 12th Open district-level tournament for the Aquatex Cup.

The results (finals): State-level: Indian Bank (Chennai) bt Southern Railway (Chennai) 25-23, 15-25, 25-14, 25-17.

District-level: Saraswathi Thyagaraja (Pollachi) bt SDMVC 23-25, 17-25, 25-20, 25-18, 15-12 .

Zubair-Rajendran duo wins

At Udhagamandalam, the pair of Zubair Sait and V. Rajendran clinched the honours in the doubles weekend of the Good Shepherd International School Trophy (0-18) golf at the Ootacamund Gymkhana Club.

Earlier, Rajendran combined with Aruna Kulandaivel to lift the Bali Cup with a +10 score.

The golfing season now enters the final two weeks with the players contesting the Dunlop Shield, the Cotton City Challenge, the South India Amateur Open and the Mitsubishi Laser EDM Trophy.

Easy for ‘A' Classic

At Udhagamandalam , R. Immanuel scored 99 in ‘A' Classic Cricket Club's 257-run win over Wonder XI Cricket Club in the TNCA-NDCA second division league for the Murali Babu Rolling Trophy at the Laidlaw Memorial School grounds recently.

Sreedhar is president

At Erode, G. Sreedhar has been elected president of the Erode District Cricket Association at its Annual General Meeting at the Club Mellange recently.
