BELLARY: Kubera, who was accused of planting seven crude bombs in Chellagurki village, a well-known pilgrimage centre has won the gram panchayat seat (reserved for STs) from Chellagurki constituency. Kubera, against whom a case has been registered by the police, is still at large. Kubera won the election with a narrow margin of six votes. Seven crude bombs, kept in a nearly 3-ft-long piece of polyvinyl chloride pipe, was found near the residence of Yerriswamy, one of the candidates contesting the elections to the gram panchayat, leading to fear and tension among the public. The crude bombs, containing gunpowder, nails, glass pieces, blades and detonators, connected with wire, were defused by the experts from a Bomb Disposal Squad from Bangalore. Based on a complaint by Yerriswamy, the Param Devanahalli police had registered a case against Chellagurki Anjaneya, former taluk panchayat member, his son Kubera, and three others in connection with planting the bomb. Superintendent of Police M.N. Nagaraj told presspersons that Anjaneya was a history-sheeter and had allegedly threatened Yerriswamy with serious consequences if he contested elections against his son. However, Yerriswamy had filed his nomination papers after seeking police protection. Anjaneya was arrested.
