‘Make cooperative movement member-oriented'
Special Correspondent
JAIPUR: Elected boards of directors of the District Cooperative Federations were asked to make the cooperative movement “member-oriented” in the changing economic sphere and exercise their newly acquired powers to protect the interests of cooperative bodies at a workshop here on Tuesday.
State Registrar of Cooperative Societies Mukesh Sharma said at the day-long workshop that the authority in the business and administrative realms vested in the boards of directors should be used for enrolling new members and expanding the activities of cooperative bodies.
Mr. Sharma pointed out that the State Government had accorded full autonomy to the cooperative institutions by amending the law in accordance with the Vaidyanathan Committee's recommendations.
Elections to the cooperative federations constituted a significant step to strengthen the cooperative movement, he added.
Other speakers at the workshop suggested that the infrastructure for the federations be strengthened and their elected directors be given important responsibilities in the district-level administrative committees.
