Master plan for crime detection soon: Badal Jr.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal

Chandigarh: The Punjab Government is preparing a master plan using state-of-the-art technology for crime detection and prevention, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said on Tuesday.

The Punjab Police are using latest software and data base of the National Crime Bureau (NCB) to exchange information on criminals operating in the neighbouring States, their modus operandi and pattern of crime to chalk out a joint strategy to pre-empt their strikes, he said.

The State Police, especially the police forces of districts falling on inter-State borders, were having regular bilateral/trilateral meetings to nab these gangs, he told reporters at Jalalabad in Ferozepur district after a function.

He said the Punjab Police had constituted a special core group to crack white-collar crimes like cyber crimes and online frauds .

Mr. Badal said a plan had been chalked out to install close-circuit cameras on national and state highways besides all strategic and sensitive points in towns and cities and ultra-modern police control rooms had been set up at range level to monitor developments and respond quickly to problems.

He said Punjab has already sought a Rs. 200 crore special modernisation grant from the Centre as being a border state it has to be treated differently.

Questioning the “silence” of Congress MPs on a clean chit for Jagdish Tytler, he said the MPs were deliberately maintaining silence on this crucial issue as they do not want to “offend 10 Janpath”. - PTI
