Woman drugs mothers-in-law; decamps with jewellery, cash

Staff Reporter

‘Her mother and brother also missing since the incident'

NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old woman allegedly decamped with the jewellery of her in-laws at Tilak Nagar here this past weekend.

According to the complaint, Meetu allegedly made her two mothers-in-law, Har Kaur and Savinder Kaur, consume cold drinks laced with some sedative on May 14 night. The elderly women later woke up and found their daughter-in-law missing along with her seven-year-old daughter. Jewellery worth about Rs.50 lakh and Rs.3 lakh in cash were missing, they alleged.

Police enquiries revealed that Meetu's second husband Neel Mohan Singh works in London. She was earlier married to his brother, who died recently.

Meetu's mother and brother live in the neighbourhood. “They have also gone missing after the incident, which indicates their involvement,” said a police officer on Tuesday. The police are trying to ascertain if Meetu stole the jewellery at the instance of her brother, who is engaged in tour and travel business and had apparently incurred losses. A case of breach of trust has been registered and the police are trying to track down the suspects.
