Hyderabad
Caught unawares: Sudden showers accompanied by winds lash the city under the influence of the cyclone Laila on Tuesday. Hyderabad: The heavy thunder showers that lashed the twin cities brought stifling temperatures to bearable levels simultaneously bringing the normal life to a near halt for sometime on Tuesday evening as the squalls led to massive disruption in power supply. Lighting struck two persons at Keesara on city outskirts killing them on the spot. The victim G. Krishna Reddy (27) was attending to some work in his field along with a helper, Mahesh (25) when lightening struck them. The city witnessed showers and strong winds around 5 p.m., which nearly lasted for over 40 minutes, bringing in the much needed respite from the heat. Though the rainfall was only 1.2 mm at 5.30 p.m. temperature dropped from 42 degrees Celsius to 40.7 degrees. The sudden rain forced motorists to take shelter under the flyovers and bus stands as many roads were clogged. Officials from the MET department said that the weather would remain cloudy for the next two to three days due to the cyclone warning. The lowest temperature of the day was recorded at 27.3 degrees.
