KOLAR: The gram panchayat polls in Kolar district threw up some interesting winners, including that of the election of a candidate who contested from jail. R. Krishnamurthy, who is in sub-jail here on charges of attacking lawyer, Srinivas, was elected to the Honnenahalli Gram Panchayat in Kolar taluk. Arrested on charges of attempt to murder, Mr. Krishnamurthy was remanded in judicial custody and has been in jail for the past two months. His bail application is pending in the Karnataka High Court. Mr. Krishnamurthy contested the GP polls from Nadupalli constituency of Honnenahalli GP by submitting his nomination papers through the jailer after getting court permission. He defeated his nearest rival by six votes. In Beglihosahalli Gram Panchayat, the winner was decided by the drawing of lots as two candidates got equal number of votes. As Ambarish and Raghu garnered 286 votes each, the officials decided to draw lots, and lady luck smiled on Mr. Ambarish. While T.M. Venkatesh won with one vote, Tayamma won with a margin of two votes.
