Cabinet panel to study fiscal situation mooted

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Apart from the havoc feared to be unleashed by the severe cyclonic storm ‘Laila', the Cabinet discussed at considerable length the trying financial situation in the State in its three-hour meeting held on Wednesday.

Anguished by the criticism that he was unable to speedily implement the welfare programmes initiated by the late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister K.Rosaiah, it is learnt, put the facts and figures about the financial situation in the State and left it to the wisdom of his Cabinet colleagues to come out with suggestions for their efficient implementation.

About Rs.18,300 crore including Rs.7,300 crore for 39 irrigation projects nearing completion, were pending for release under different schemes during 2009-10, the cabinet was informed. While emphasising that they all should collectively strive to ensure successful implementation of all existing welfare schemes, Mr. Rosaiah sought constructive suggestions from the Ministers too to fulfil the government's commitment to people .
