KOLLAM: Minister for Cultural Affairs M.A. Baby will inaugurate a five-day folk arts festival at Kundara near here on May 23. The festival, ‘Venad Utsavam,' is being jointly hosted by the Cultural Affairs Department and the Kerala Folklore Akademi. At the inaugural function, Mr. Baby will distribute last year's akademi awards to 40 folk artistes. The award winners will be introduced at the function by executive committee member of the akademi M. Prakashan, MLA. A book on the festival will be released by district panchayat president K. Somaprasad. The inaugural function will be preceded by a cultural procession which will begin from Kundara Mukkada Junction to the festival venue at the Kundara Ceramics grounds. Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, Mr. Baby said that more than 60 forms of folk arts would be presented on two stages. Some of the art forms to be presented are on the verge of extinction. The festival is, in fact, an attempt to revive these arts forms, Mr. Baby said.
