dated May 21, 1960: Stormy debate ahead

With the Soviet request for urgent action by the Security Council on the American spy plane case and the American response that they proposed to revive their open skies plan, the stage is set for one of the stormiest debates in the history of the United Nations, writes the PTI correspondent at the U.N from New York. Sources close to the American delegation stated on May 19 that the United States would present its open skies plan at the “appropriate time” and would be in no hurry to file it “in competition with the Russian complaint.”
