Jr. Fed Cup athletics from May 27

VISAKHAPATNAM: The 10th National junior Federation Cup athletics championships 2010 for under-20 men and women will be held at the Port Diamond Jubilee Stadium here from May 27 to 29.

Speaking to mediapersons on Thursday, the Commissioner of Income Tax-II and chairman of the organising committee, I. Suresh Babu, said about 700 athletes, including 50 internationals, and 100 officials from 30 States and five Union Territories would take part.

The National teams to take part in the Asian junior championship scheduled at Onai in Vietnam from July 1 to 4 and also for the World junior meet in Canada later in July would be picked during the three-day championships, he said.

Organising secretary D. Nageswara Rao said already 10 States had confirmed participation and more would confirm their entry within a couple of days.

The President of the Visakhapatnam District Athletics Association, J.N. Choudary, said the budget for the meet was Rs. 21 lakh and arrangements for boarding and lodging of the participants were nearing completion. — Special Correspondent
