Fishermen told not to venture out to sea

Staff Correspondent

Udupi: The Department of Fisheries has warned fishermen in Udupi district not to venture out to the sea for the next 24 hours on account of the cyclone Laila hitting the Andhra Pradesh coast and the sea being rough.

Assistant Director of the Department of Fisheries Harish Kumar said here on Thursday that nearly 90 per cent of boats that had gone for fishing had returned to the Malpe fisheries harbour. The remaining 10 per cent would be returning shortly, he added.

While the warning is for the next 24 hours, it will be reviewed again on Friday.
