MACHILIPATNAM: The Krishna district administration will continue to remain on high-alert till Friday morning, as the meteorological department had not withdrawn its warnings on Thursday evening. Though the officials maintained that the district was ‘out of danger', the official machinery would be kept on alert. Relief camps would also be kept open till the rain and gales stop. “It is a precautionary measure. As there is every possibility of heavy rains and gales lashing the district tonight, it is not safe to send back the evacuees to their thatched houses,” B.R. Meena, special officer on cyclone duty in Krishna district, told the media on Thursday. In all, the district administration provided rehabilitation to 6,560 people from 23 villages of eight coastal mandals at 27 relief centres. The cyclone claimed three lives in the district, as three of a family in Pedapulipaka died due of electrocution on Wednesday night. Of the 436 villages that went without power for the last two days, supply was restored in 410 villages by Thursday evening. A road stretch was damaged completely between Pallepalem and Krutivennu due to uprooting of trees. By Thursday evening, the district registered an average rainfall of 64.2 mm. Vijayawada revenue division registered the highest rainfall of 511.2 mm, which was followed by Bandar division with 114 mm, Gudivada division with 88.9 mm and Nuzvid division with 37.7 mm rainfall. As communication to the villages was cut off due, officials monitored the position through mobile phones. Relief camps were arranged at Yetimoga, Nachugunta and Eella Chetla Dibba panchayats for 4,000 people residing in island villages and hamlets.
