Several trains cancelled

SCR opens help counters; Rs. 33.60 lakh refunded to passengers


HYDERABAD: South Central Railway has cancelled, partially cancelled or diverted 107 express and passenger trains on Thursday following heavy rains and floods in the wake of the cyclone. Nine of these will not be operated on Friday too.

An official release said 14 express and 41 passenger trains were cancelled, while 11 express and two passengers were partially cancelled. In all, 39 express services were run on diverted routes. A sum of Rs. 33.60 lakh was refunded to passengers because of disruption in scheduled runs.

SCR General Manager M.S. Jayanth briefed Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, saying extensive track patrolling was being taken up, while the Divisional Managers at Guntakal and Guntur were monitoring the situation round-the-clock.

Fully cancelled

Express services fully cancelled on 20-05-10 are no. 7482 Tirupati-Bilaspur, 2842 Chennai-Howrah Coramandel, 2759/2760 Chennai-Hyderabad-Chennai Charminar, 2764/2763 Secunderabad-Tirupati-Secunderabad Padmavathi, 7487/7488 Tirupati-Visakhapatnam-Tirupati, 7210 Kakinada Town-Bangalore, 7643/7644 Chennai Egmore-Kakinada Port-Chennai Egmore Circar, 7401/7402 Tirupati-Machilipatnam-Tirupati Narsapur and 2712 Chennai-Vijayawada.

Train no. 2077 Chennai-Vijayawada Janashatabdi and 2711 Vijayawada-Chennai Pinakini were partially cancelled between Nellore and Vijayawada and Chinnaganjam and Chennai, respectively, 7405/7406 Tirupati-Adilabad-Tirupati (on Tirupati-Vijayawada), 2078 Vijayawada-Chennai Janshatabdi (Vijayawada-Nellore and 2710 Secunderabad-Gudur Simhapuri express between Ongole and Gudur.

Diverted

Express trains whose runs were diverted on Thursday include no. 2839 Howrah-Chennai, 2516 Guwahati-Trivandrum Central, 2660 Howrah-Nagercoil, 2616 New Delhi-Chennai Grand Trunk, 2622 New Delhi-Chennai Tamil Nadu, 2830 Bhubaneswar-Chennai, 6032 Jammu Tawi-Chennai, 2656 Chennai-Ahmedabad Navjeevan, 7479 Puri-Tirupati and 2655 Ahmedabad-Chennai.

Also diverted were train no. 7230 Hyderabad-Trivandrum Sabari, 2604 Hyderabad-Chennai, 2641 Kanyakumari-Hazrat Nizamuddin Kanyakumari, 2687 Chennai-Dehradun, 5227 Bangalore-Muzaffarpur, 2296A Patna-Bangalore special, 2510 and 2509 Guwahati-Bangalore-Guwahati, 2577 Darbanga-Bangalore and 6360 Patna-Ernakulam.

Special counters

SCR has opened special counters at 14 stations in the Vijayawada division to help disseminate information to passengers in view of the cyclone. In all these stations, two counters each were set up specially to facilitate with refunds.

Following are the stations and phone numbers: Gudur (0864-251503, 97013-73986), Nellore (0861-2336263, 97013-73989), Kavali (08620-26243131, 94417-77134), Ongole (08592-220131, 97013-73994), Bapatla (08643-220756, 97013-73997), Tenali (08644-227834, 97013-73550), Vijayawada (0866-2576924, 97013-73985), Machilipatnam (08672-223684, 97013-73565), Rajahmundry (0883-2423535, 97013-73542), Tuni (08854-256552, 97013-73545), Anakapalli (08924-222303, 9701373566), Gudivada (08674-244219, 97013-73559), Bhimavaram Town (08816-222358, 97013-73563) and Tanuku (08819-220493, 97013-73556).

Also, in Secunderabad station five counters were established for refunds two more each were set up at Kachiguda, Nampally and Begumpet stations. In the State capital, railway officials said that slightly over 1,500 registered, charter passengers were provided coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Thursday. The food was supplied free in cases of passengers' journey being disrupted because of the Railways' inability to operate, while for the other passengers, additional arrangements were made for supply of food at cost.
