Kozhikode: The Indian Union Muslim League has made it clear that the party will have no political alliance with the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind because each has a different brand of politics and these are incompatible. At a press conference at the League House here on Thursday, P.K. Kunhalikutty, party State general secretary, said he and other Muslim League leaders had tried to understand during their recent discussions here with those of the Jamaat if the latter intended to enter practical politics. When it became clear that the Jamaat had plans to contest the local body elections in September, the League leadership did not have to think twice before deciding to keep away from that outfit. He said the Jamaat had a religious orientation that would be reflected in its politics. It had encouraged militant elements in the past. The League could not accept these for the same reasons that it opposed the Sangh Parivar. “League's politics is different. It is true that in the past we had invited Jamaat leaders for talks on issues concerning the Muslim community. But having cultural and social contacts is different from entering into a political alliance…. League will not have any links with Jamaat,” he said.
