No loss of human life in Vizianagaram

Additional funds to be allocated to improve sanitation

The 10 fishermen, who go missing, return safely

VIZIANAGARAM: Minister for Panchayat Raj Botcha Satyanarayana has said that in addition to the grants available with panchayats, Rs.15 lakhs to Rs. 20 lakhs will be allocated to improve sanitation in villages.

The Minister said here on Friday that in Vizianagaram municipality, the drainage system at Clock Tower junction could not be improved as the local MLA, who owns shops there, has certain reservations. If those were cleared road widening would be taken up in the area, he said.

With regard to the impact of cyclone on the district, the Minister said that there was no loss of human life and property due to the steps taken by the district administration. The ten fishermen from Chintapalli in Poosapatirega mandal, who went missing in sea, reached safely at Kaviti in Srikakulam district.

He said a man was electrocuted in Mentada mandal when he climbed an electric pole. He said a detailed report on crop loss and property would be available after the cyclonic storm subsided. The rains brought relief to people from the scorching heat and solved drinking water problem to some extent.

Assurance to traders

The Minister assured the traders whose shops were pulled down as part of road-widening work at Thotapalem on Tuesday that they would be relocated after completion of the work.

The assurance came in the wake of a dharna the aggrieved traders staged under the aegis of the CPI (M) at the Collector's Office. Reddy Sankar Rao, CPI (M) leader informed the Minister that municipal officials had not given them prior notice to vacate. He appealed to the Minister to limit the width of road from the proposed 60 feet to 40 feet.
