THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A. Archa of Thiruvananthapuram hogged the limelight on the opening day of the State junior and sub-junior aquatics meet which got underway at the LNCPE swimming pool here on Friday. Archa erased the oldest record from the books while winning the junior girls' 200m freestyle event. Archa clocked 2:29.82 seconds to break Sony Cyriac's old mark (2:33.32s) set in 2000. Apart from Archa's record, the first day's competition saw another two records being broken. M. Taufeeq set a new mark in 200m freestyle in junior boys' event. Toufeeq clocked 2:09.34s to break Shalu Sasi's old mark (2:10.22s) which was set last year. The day's last record was set by Thrissur's 4x100m medley relay squad which rewrote the old record set by Thiruvananthapruam (5:29.38s) by clocking 5:28.43s in junior girls' category. At the end of first day's competition, Thiruvananthapuram (569 points) had taken a big lead over second-placed Ernakulam (271) and third-placed Thrissur (100) respectively.
