Regional Commissioner M.V. Jayanthi, who conducted the election, declared Mr. Siddartha elected. He will hold office till January 17, 2011. The election was held following the resignation of K.S. Dharmendra of Congress. The Congress which has governed the ZP for more than four years faced an embarrassment owing to the rebel candidate defeating the official candidate. In fact of the 46 members of the ZP, 31 are from the Congress.

On learning about the defeat of Congress nominee Mr. Siddappa, MPs A.H. Vishwanath and R. Dhruvanarayana disappeared from the ZP office premises.
