GREAT ACHIEVEMENT:State second rank holder R. Shiva Preeyaa, and third rankers R. Raj Surya and B. Manikandan.
KARUR: It's a fabulous day for Karur education affairs honchos as students from the district walked away with second and third ranks in the State level in the SSLC examinations results of which were declared on Wednesday. R. Shiva Preeya of PA Vidya Bhavan Higher Secondary School, Thalapatti, bagged the runnerup spot in the State level scoring 494 out of a possible 500, scoring centum in mathematics and science but missing the score by a mark in English while getting 98 in Tamil and 97 in Social Science. “My immediate aim is to study a course in computer science and then pursue my pet subject astronomy,'' points out Ms. Preeyaa. When many students prefer engineering and medicine, Ms. Preeyaa differs from the lot and says that her role model is, well, the former India Space Research Organisation chief Madhavan Nair. No wonder she wants to pursue astronomy and emulate him to reach the top job in ISRO. Her father V. Ramkumar is an official with the Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation while her mother R. Uma Maheswari is a teacher. Ms. Preeyaa also thanked her parents, teachers and classmates for the moral and material support they extended in helping her achieve crowning glory. Another student from Karur, R.Raj Surya of the Cheran Higher Secondary School, Punnam Chatram, near here coveted honours at the State level standing third in the examinations while aggregating 493 marks. Mr. Surya has scored centum in mathematics, Science and Social Science and getting 97 in Tamil and 96 in English. His father R. Rajendran of Pungodai Kalipalayam near here is a farmer and his mother Rajeswari is a housewife. Mr. Surya's hopes to leapfrog from crops to cardiology and he has a poignant reason to propel him to achieve his target. Mr. Surya wants to enter the field of medicine and the specialise in cardiology in memory of his late cousin who died of cardiac failure coupled with lack of timely and adequate medicare. District pass percentage 80.1 The district has achieved a pass percentage of 80.1 . District Collector (in charge) C. Munirathinam announced the results at the CSI Boys Higher Secondary School here. While 4,530 boys out of the 5,836 who appeared for the exams passed out successfully for a percentage of 77.6, 4,748 girls of the 5,745 who took the exams cleared the tests for a percentage of 82.6. In all, 9,278 students of the 11,581 who appeared for the exams were declared pass for an aggregate percentage of 80.10. State second rank holder R. Shiva Preeyaa topped the district followed by the State third rank holder R. Raj Surya (493 out of 500) of Cheran Higher Secondary School, Punnam Chatram. B. Manikandan of PA Vidya Bhavan Higher Secondary School scored 491 to bag the third position in the district. Among the students of the Government schools, M. Surekha of Government HSS, Velliyanai, scored 484 to top the district list trailed by V. Chitra of Government HSS, Thennilai, and G. Vinoba of Government HSS, Aravakurichi, each with an aggregate of 479 and the third place went to R. Hemalatha of Government HSS, K. Paramathi, for a score of 478 In the aided schools category, M. Nithya of St. Theresa's Girls HSS and R. Manimekalai of Sri Sarada Girls HSS, Pasupathypalayam scored 481 each to bag the top position followed by six students _ S. Keerthana, C. Manikandan, A. Manikandan, K. Varuna, M. Saradha and V. Sthulakshmi _ scored 480 each to occupy the joint second position. S. Madhumalar aggregated 479 to get the third position. A total of 18 schools including nine government schools secured the distinction of getting all their students passed. Eight self financing and one aided school made up the rest of the numbers. In the matriculation stream, P. Shanjhunaa of Cheran Matriculation HSS, Vennaimalai, scored 490 marks to walk away with the top honours, followed by Anjali Suga of St. Teresa's Matriculation HSS, Karur, who got 489 marks. M. Priyanka of Cheran Matriculation HSS and T. Shalini of Chettinad Rajah Muthaiah Matriculation HSS, Puliyur, scored 486 each to secure the third position jointly. A total of 1,353 students out of the 1,388 who appeared for the SSLC exams under the Matriculation stream were declared pass in the district for a pass percentage of 97.5. Of that, the boys secured 96.8 per cent and the girls 98.4 per cent. Creditably 19 schools achieved 100 per cent pass percentage in the district.
